Good morning, Jefferson City. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 14th of May.

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Congressman Sam Graves met with Governor Mike Kehoe on Monday (May 12) at the Missouri Capitol to discuss plans to keep the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals in Missouri. He also talked about the $2.8 billion I-70 expansion project (a key regional infrastructure effort) as part of his work as the dean of Missouri’s congressional delegation.  KWOS
  • Governor Mike Kehoe’s last-minute proposal to secure funding for stadiums for the Chiefs and Royals passed the House on Tuesday by a 108—40 vote but now faces uncertain Senate approval as the Legislature nears its end. If approved, the plan will help cover half the cost of the projects and offer teams up to $50 million in tax credits to remain in Missouri.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • Missouri lawmaker Stephen Webber is proposing Senate Bill 733 to change how long-term care facilities run by requiring a certificate of need for ownership transfers and full owner disclosures. The bill also sets minimum nurse staffing hours and sits in the Families, Seniors and Health Committee with few days left in session—changes that could improve care— before lawmakers decide.  ABC 17
  • Former Senator Christopher 'Kit' Bond died early Tuesday in St. Louis as public officials from both parties shared their condolences. A memorial service will be held at noon Tuesday, May 20 at the Capitol Rotunda and flags will be lowered to half-staff until after his funeral on May 22.  ABC 17
