CRIME NEWS

  • A Jefferson City man, Andrew Henderson, was charged with first-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action after he allegedly attacked his mother by slashing her forehead in an apartment on Dewberry Drive Saturday+ deputies said he lost his temper as he left the scene.  ABC 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Governor Mike Kehoe has appointed 16 Missouri residents to the Missouri School Funding Modernization Task Force—this panel will rewrite the formula for state aid to local school districts after officials said over $4 billion spent on K-12 education did not yield acceptable results.  KRCG-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Missouri Department of Conservation reported that hunters took home 46,562 turkeys between April 21 and May 11 while youth hunters contributed 4,449 birds to the statewide total of 51,011. Franklin County led the hunt with 956 birds—Callaway County had 873 and Texas County had 860.  KRCG-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Roadwork on one lane of Highway 54 in Jefferson City is causing delays that could extend summer trips to the Lake of the Ozarks and has closed exit ramps on Madison Street and Christy Drive—contractors work with an incentive to finish early—so drivers may face heavier traffic through October.  KWOS
  • Missouri lawmakers sent a $53 billion fiscal year 2026 state budget to Gov. Mike Kehoe's desk that adds nearly $500 million for K-12 education and grants state employees a raise of 1% for every two years worked—up to a 10% maximum for 20-year workers. However, the House adjourned without approving nearly $500 million in extra spending for different projects.  KWOS

HEALTH NEWS

  • Yesterday, the Community Health Center of Central Missouri broke ground on a new women's and children's health care center at 1511 Christy Dr.—the facility will offer OB-GYN, pediatric and dental services.  Jefferson City News Tribune

SPORTS NEWS

  • United Capital City Soccer Club held a groundbreaking ceremony Monday for its new multi-sports complex near the Special Olympics Training for Life Campus, which is set to host soccer, baseball and softball tournaments and is expected to bring over $40 million to the city in its first year. The club will construct additional buildings in the coming weeks and install turf in July—officials also launched a capital campaign to raise between $2 million and $3 million.  KRCG-TV
