  • Artist Zak Skinner threw a dart at a map in 2015 to choose his home and later found a supportive community in our local music scene—he now builds connections with fellow creatives.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • Former Centertown postmaster Arthur Thompson (33) died from the Spanish flu in early 1919 after moving to Centertown in 1910. He was raised on a farm near Jefferson City (and attended a commercial college), underscoring the lasting local impact of the 1918–1919 pandemic.  Jefferson City News Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Sunday afternoon, the Rise Up Foundation hosted Cupcakes and Conversations for girls ages 9—19 in Jefferson City to talk about sexual violence prevention and online safety—community leaders shared personal experiences to empower attendees. The foundation will partner with Lincoln University for a Denim Day Poetry Slam on April 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the Scruggs ballroom, followed by a vigil and candlelit walk.  KRCG-TV

  • Col. Seth C. Frank, a Mid-Missouri native, will retire from the U.S. Air Force after 30 years—his military retirement ceremony is scheduled for May 10.  Jefferson City News Tribune

  • Martinelli's recalled roughly 173,616 bottles of apple juice sold in its signature glass jars in 28 states, including Missouri, because they might be contaminated with the toxin patulin—customers should return the product to the store for a refund.  Jefferson City News Tribune
