CRIME NEWS

  • An Ashland man named Frederick Sage was charged with second-degree sodomy on Wednesday for an incident allegedly occurring in May 2024, with officials issuing a warrant and setting a $20,000 bond — court documents indicate the victim reported the assault to Jefferson City police.  ABC 17
  • Jefferson City man Michael Hartman has been charged with a Class C felony for allegedly delivering meth after Cole County deputies executed a search warrant on April 23 and found a fake Pepsi can with four baggies of meth that weighed about 15 grams — he is set to appear in court on May 6.  Jefferson City News Tribune

CULTURE NEWS

  • A Memorial Mass for Pope Francis was held at noon on Friday at the Cathedral of St. Joseph on Main St. in Jefferson City – led by Archbishop-designate Shawn McKnight and diocesan priests, the event came ahead of his funeral service early Saturday at 3 a.m. in Vatican City.  ABC 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe signed a bill on Thursday that gives Attorney General Andrew Bailey new power to appeal court orders blocking state laws, and attorney Chuck Hatfield filed a lawsuit on Friday saying the law violates the state Constitution by using an unnecessary emergency clause—critics argue it gives the attorney general too much retroactive power. This legal challenge may impact how future court decisions and ballot measures are handled.  Jefferson City News Tribune

HEALTH NEWS

  • SSM Health in Jefferson City is launching an 8-week outpatient program in Cole County to help adolescents aged 11 to 17 manage rising mental health issues including anxiety and depression. The program will meet Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. starting in May (a parent or guardian must attend on Wednesdays) and uses Dialectical Behavior Therapy to teach emotion regulation skills.  KRCG-TV
