COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Missouri Electric Cooperative hosted its annual fish fry on April 23 at the state capitol lawn, serving over 600 pounds of fish to nearly 900 guests—legislators, state officials and cooperative members—and celebrated its long-standing tradition of community service.  The Missouri Times

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Thursday, a Jefferson City firefighter sustained minor injuries in a house fire on the 1500 block of Tanner Bridge Road as firefighters rescued three people and controlled heavy fire conditions within 20 minutes— the injured firefighter was taken to a hospital for evaluation.  ABC 17

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new report from the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry shows that Missouri will rank among the top 10 for tech manufacturing within the next five years—shared at a press conference on April 23rd.  Jefferson City News Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Governor Mike Kehoe promised to update Missouri’s public school funding formula nearly three months ago but still has not named his School Funding Modernization Task Force—his spokesperson said selections will be announced in the coming weeks. Senate President Pro Tem Cindy O’Laughlin also appointed Senators Rusty Black and Travis Fitzwater to the committee while House members join efforts to revise the funding model for fiscal year 2026.  Jefferson City News Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, the Jefferson City council approved a new housing incentive program that gives developers a $5,000 reimbursement for each new unit—six developers are eligible for $560,000 to build 112 units that must be completed by mid-2027 to address the housing shortage and boost local growth.  KRCG-TV
  • Starting May 7, a REAL ID will be required to board domestic flights and enter federal buildings, the Missouri Department of Revenue said — about 45% of current licenses have the gold star so residents should gather a passport or birth certificate with a social security proof and proper address documents when applying at one of 174 state offices.  KRCG-TV
  • Missouri Western District Judge Stephen Bough (who signed the order Thursday) reinstated the visas of five international F-1 college students in Missouri after their SEVIS statuses were terminated following a lawsuit against DHS and ICE for alleged due process violations. The order reinstated one visa to April 4, three to April 9 and one to April 10 (the affected campuses are Truman State, Northwest Missouri State, Southeast Missouri State, Missouri S&T in Rolla and Virginia Tech University with a Kansas City work tie).  ABC 17
