BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ The Missouri Chamber of Commerce predicted that Missouri will rank among the Top 10 tech manufacturing states within five years after presenting its Technology2030 report to the General Assembly on Wednesday morning. The report recommends tax breaks — improved broadband and a state-backed AI research center — to help attract tech companies while noting that the tech industry added over 14,000 jobs and generated more than $19 billion in income for the state. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Cole County mother and her son were charged after police responded Tuesday morning to a home on Buena Vista Street when neighbors reported hearing gunshots, with the son facing charges including possession of a controlled substance and unlawful use of a weapon and the mother charged with drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia (both are held without bond at Cole County jail). - ➤ Lincoln University students showcased their research at the Show Your Blue Stripes Conference on April 3 at Inman E. Page Library—presenting posters and papers covering topics from housing solutions for homeless veterans to climate change inequalities. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Missouri Public Service Commission approved two unopposed agreements that raised Ameren Missouri's rates by $355 million — a $91 million smaller increase than requested — while keeping the $9 monthly fee unchanged and setting terms for several low-income programs. ABC 17
- ➤ The Callaway County Sheriff's Office held a three-day FEMA-funded active shooter training (with a $69,000 grant) in Fulton this week. First responders from Callaway County, Jefferson City, and Columbia joined exercises (simulations and lectures) to improve teamwork in handling emergencies. KRCG-TV
- ➤ MoDOT is revisiting the project to widen westbound U.S. 54 in North Jefferson City. The department has preliminary plans to add a lane for drivers exiting southbound U.S. 63 (eliminating the need for merging) across the Missouri River bridge. Jefferson City News Tribune
- ➤ Governor Mike Kehoe and Lt Governor David Wasinger attended Buy Missouri Day at the State Capitol to promote local-made products — a campaign that now includes over 650 businesses amid concerns about rising supply costs from tariffs.
