COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Engbretsen family opened their self-serve egg stand on Rainbow Drive near Jefferson City to help neighbors facing high egg prices amid shortages this Easter season. The stand sells a dozen eggs for $4 & any profits go toward buying chicken feed with plans to add peppers and flowers soon.  KRCG-TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Thursday in Laclede County, a crash seriously injured two Jefferson City youths when a 2021 Infiniti — driven by a 35-year-old local woman — hydroplaned and struck a Toyota, with all involved taken to Lake Regional Hospital and both vehicles totaled.  ABC 17
  • A hydroplaning crash on Thursday at 9:20 a.m. on North Highway 5 just south of Oakwood Drive in Laclede County injured a 35-year-old Jefferson City woman—her two passengers suffered serious injuries and a three-year-old in a 2017 Toyota Four Runner received moderate injuries.  KRCG-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Sergio Sayles, a Jefferson City man charged in 2023 with first-degree murder for stabbing Jasmine King — the mother of his child — waived his right to a jury trial in exchange for dropping the death penalty, and his bench trial is set for 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3 after the case was moved back to Cole County.  ABC 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe joined state officials at the Capitol Thursday morning when hundreds of volunteers packed 10,000 meal kits for food banks through the Missouri Farmers Care Foundation Drive to Feed Kids—each kit contained dehydrated chicken broth, rice, and dried vegetables.  KRCG-TV
  • Missouri voters approved Proposition A in November, which required businesses to post written notice about earned paid sick time by April 15 and set an accrual rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked starting May 1, while a lawsuit and House Bill 567—passed on March 13 and currently on the Senate floor—challenge the rule. The Missouri Department of Labor said that private retail and service businesses with gross sales under $500,000 and government entities are exempt.  KRCG-TV
