EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Jefferson City School District named assistant principal Jordan Chapman as the new principal of Thomas Jefferson Middle School for next school year. He began his career as a teacher and basketball coach (in 2009) and said he is ready to lead the school. ABC 17
- ➤ At State Technical College of Missouri, 1,600 students gathered for the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference—where they competed in vocational events. Jefferson City News Tribune
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Mike Kehoe requested FEMA to join joint preliminary damage assessments for counties damaged by storms and flooding—this includes an EF-2 tornado that struck Pilot Grove on April 2. The assessments will begin Tuesday, April 15 to verify damage and determine if FEMA public assistance can be requested. ABC 17
- ➤ Workers are building the entrance to a new air traffic control tower at Jefferson City Memorial Airport—this $10 million project will replace a 51-year-old temporary structure with an 85-foot tower built on four acres of city property on a flood pad fifteen feet above the airport's east end off Mokane Road. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Negotiating teams from MU Health Care and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield failed to secure an agreement by April 1, leaving more than 90,000 patients out of network. Officials dispute the rate increase details—MU Health Care said its initial offer of a 39% hike has since dropped to single digits, while Anthem maintains that the higher rate is needed. KRCG-TV

Carter Center on Health and Aging at Lincoln University Cooperative Extension has worked with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services for over 30 years to deliver health education to underserved communities by connecting them to vital resources — including programs for brain health and cancer prevention. - ➤ MU Health Care reported a $45 million operating gain for the first half of fiscal year 2025—its Columbia operations generated $1.09 billion in revenue and its Jefferson City facility posted a $4.2 million profit while it continues to negotiate insurance rates with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. Boone Health improved its finances by reducing its 2024 operational loss by $7.7 million from 2023 and turned positive in EBITDA for January and February. ABC 17
