CRIME NEWS

  • A federal grand jury indicted Robert M. Matthews, 42, a Jefferson City man who pleaded guilty in September to charges from a 2024 road rage incident – he admitted displaying a gun on May 23 and now faces federal charges for being a felon in possession of a firearm.  KRCG-TV
  • A Jefferson City man, Christian Chenet, was arrested Tuesday at 2:41 p.m.—in the 100 block of East High Street—after he threatened to get his gun when asked to leave a downtown business over a misplaced purse; prosecutors charged him with First Degree Harassment and Fourth Degree Assault.  KRCG-TV
  • Latrell Batts, 27, was charged on April 8 for pulling a gun during a bar fight on March 11 and faces federal counts for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, unlawfully using a weapon, and armed criminal action (he has prior convictions for assault and accessory forcible stealing).  KRCG-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Elizabeth Dorssom of Lincoln University received the 2025 Standout Faculty Award from ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge for her leadership in promoting nonpartisan civic learning and voter participation—an honor tied to the 2024 election. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Over 550 child advocates gathered last Wednesday at the Capitol for the 43rd Annual Child Advocacy Day organized by Kids Win Missouri to urge policy changes addressing Missouri’s childcare crisis—speakers including Senate Pro Tem Cindy O’Laughlin and Senator Brian Williams pushed for an enrollment-based payment system and a childcare exchange program to support families and providers. The rally highlighted proposals aimed at strengthening access to affordable care and boosting the state economy.  The Missouri Times
