COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Shawn McKnight, the current bishop of the Jefferson City Diocese, was appointed by Pope Francis as the fifth Archbishop of Kansas City and was introduced at a press conference in Kansas City at 1 p.m. Tuesday; he will lead his diocese until his installation on May 27, after which the College of Consultors will elect an administrator to manage the diocese.  ABC 17

CRIME NEWS

  • Latrell Dashon Batts, 27, a Jefferson City man with a prior felony conviction, was indicted by a federal grand jury on Tuesday for allegedly possessing a stolen gun and ammunition and is held at Cole County Jail.  ABC 17
  • A Jefferson City man, Bryan E. Couch, faces two felony counts of Stealing — Firearm and one misdemeanor count of Making False Report after he reported stolen guns on March 31 though evidence showed one gun was sold to a Columbia pawn shop in September and the other to a Jefferson City pawn shop in October.  KRCG-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Missouri lawmakers will consider a bill that preserves farmers' access to glyphosate—an herbicide that helps control weeds and boost crop yields. The measure aims to protect local farms and food supplies while experts raise concerns about safety and ongoing RoundUp lawsuits.  The Missouri Times
  • Municipal election results for April 8th were released—revealing which candidates won local offices. Local officials now plan the next steps as they prepare for a government transition.  KRCG-TV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Transformational Housing broke ground on six new apartments on McCarty Street to boost affordable housing after a ribbon cutting Tuesday. The project includes five 900-square-foot three-bedroom units and one handicap accessible unit—most construction costs will be covered by an $800,000 federal grant while tenants sign one to two year leases as the project is set to finish early next year.  KRCG-TV
