CULTURE NEWS

  • Benjamin Albert Czeschin—a first-generation U.S. citizen raised on a farm near Deer Creek in Chamois—helped open a blacksmith business with his brother before he was drafted into the U.S. Army, trained in Kansas, and deployed with the 89th Division during World War I, where he was killed eight days before the armistice ended the war.  Jefferson City News Tribune

  • State Rep. Scott Cupps, chair of the House rules committee, uses a Bingo ball spinner to decide which five House bills progress for every Senate bill, aiming to give equal review to legislation with weeks remaining in the session — he wore a special quilted jacket gifted by local friends to signal his unique approach.
