COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Office of Child Advocate Executive Director Becky Ruth said the agency will hold its first annual Child Abuse Prevention Parade in Jefferson City on Saturday, April 5 to raise awareness for child abuse prevention — with more than 60 parade entries registered. The parade's theme, Planting Seeds of Prevention, highlights the community's role in protecting children.  KRCG-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Two former inmates were charged for a fight that occurred on July 26, 2023 when Dustin Dillon tackled Valentino Barraza after a name-calling incident—guards later recovered a prison-made weapon of metal wrapped with fabric during the altercation.  KRCG-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Cole County Commission approved an expansion to the Public Works shop that will add three new garage bays and raise the roof to 25 feet so the team can handle more vehicle repairs and services. Public Works will work with Jefferson City’s Architect Alliance and the project, costing ($2 million), will be planned for the 2026 budget.  KRCG-TV
  • Gun control advocates including Moms Demand Action gathered in Jefferson City on Tuesday to lobby against several gun rights bills moving through the Missouri legislature—most notably a proposal to revive the Second Amendment Preservation Act.  KRCG-TV
  • Governor Mike Kehoe signed an executive order that activates the Missouri National Guard after severe weather moved through the state on Wednesday—helping communities prepare for potential flooding later this week—and the order will expire on April 14.  KRCG-TV
