CRIME NEWS

  • Jefferson City police arrested 33-year-old Dillion Johnson a little after 5 p.m. Wednesday—after a foot chase in Jefferson City ended a car chase that began Saturday in Fulton—when tips and video evidence confirmed his stolen Chevrolet Suburban carried a stolen gun.  ABC 17
  • On March 25th at 8:32 a.m., Cole County deputies responded to a routine inspection at Jefferson City Correctional Center when a corrections officer, Michelle Edwards, had papers that tested positive for methamphetamine and she was charged with drug delivery and tampering with physical evidence, later bonding out ($20,000 bond).  KRCG-TV
  • Callaway County deputies released drone and body camera footage from March 22 showing an eight-hour search using 17 deputies, two K9 teams, and four Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers+ an aircraft to locate 33-year-old Dillion Johnson after a high-speed chase, while 31-year-old Orion Mullins was arrested at a Millersburg gas station.  KRCG-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rhonda Allen-Lewis, a Jefferson City native with 23 years in education, will deliver the keynote address at Lincoln University's 2025 Honors Convocation on Thursday, April 17th at 11 a.m. in the Robert and Charlene Mitchell Auditorium at Richardson Fine Arts Center, and she is a Lincoln alumna who has received multiple teaching awards—now serving as an assistant principal at Lewis and Clark Middle School.  Lincoln University of Missouri

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city decided Wednesday that the historic home at 401 E. Capitol Ave must be demolished because a recent storm worsened its condition by damaging the roof and bowing the walls. GKS Management said an inspection revealed water damage and structural issues that make rehabilitation impossible.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • Two reports said proposed federal cuts to Medicaid and SNAP could create a $2 billion gap in the state budget by costing more than 20,000 jobs and reducing tax revenue by hundreds of millions—lawmakers will face tough choices as health care and food industries, especially in rural areas, prepare for the fallout.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • On Wednesday afternoon, the Jefferson City Parks Department held a ribbon cutting for its new archery range at Binder Park, located next to the campgrounds and featuring longbows+compound bows+crossbows available for use year-round from sunrise to sunset. The range was developed after a rising need for individual sports during COVID and already supports local school archery programs.  KRCG-TV
  • Jefferson City officials ordered the demolition of the historic home at 401 E. Capitol Avenue after a drone inspection showed that high winds and freezing temperatures further weakened the structure. The building, vacant since 2012 and declared dangerous in 2021, will be razed soon—city staff said falling debris and detached parts confirmed it was too unsafe to preserve.  KRCG-TV
