COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Cassidy-Rae Luebbering (known for her bright spirit on and off the field) passed away unexpectedly this fall in Blair Oaks and her football team honored her memory with a trophy celebration (following their state championship win).  KRCG-TV
  • ROTC cadre and men's soccer players from Lincoln University partnered with the YMCA to coach a local boys' soccer team at Soldiers Hall Field, beginning March 19; volunteer coach Kyle Stewart and Lt. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • No injuries were reported after a fire was quickly controlled at an apartment building on Amador Avenue, where firefighters contained the blaze to an upstairs patio and reminded residents to properly extinguish outdoor cooking or smoking materials.  ABC 17

BUSINESS NEWS

  • McLarty Automotive acquired the Jefferson City Autoplex, which includes Hyundai, Honda, and Nissan dealerships, from Sonic Automotive Tuesday, March 24. The purchase expanded its network with five locations in Jefferson City and ten in Columbia.  KRCG-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices are climbing as crude oil costs rise from global tensions, with Jefferson City stations charging between $3.26 and $3.29 per gallon (local customers report limited options) while nearby areas range from $3.14 to $3.78.  ABC 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Senate Education Committee met Tuesday at 8 a.m. in the Senate Lounge inside the Capitol to review Senate Bill 1558 that limits liability for private schools with single-sex bathrooms and House Bill 2710 that introduces performance-based funding for schools.  ABC 17
  • Yesterday, the Senate Education Committee in Jefferson City reviewed two education bills; Senate Bill 1558 would let private schools maintain single-sex bathrooms and House Bill 2710 proposes performance-based funding measures amid MAP test concerns. Testimonies were mixed.  ABC 17
