COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fulton inmates R. Copas and J. Hamilton at FRDC are using their art to airbrush cartoons on jackets, shirts and shoes for kids in need as part of the Restorative Justice Program — the hand-designed pieces will be donated to mid-Missouri children.  KRCG-TV
  • The Central and Northern Missouri chapter of Catholic Charities will close its 14-year resettlement program on March 31 due to a lack of federal funding—partner agencies will take over support for refugees while the nonprofit continues serving those in need in the Diocese of Jefferson City.  Jefferson City News Tribune

  • A Jefferson City man was charged Thursday with 11 felonies for assault and weapons linked to domestic disputes.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • A Jefferson City man was charged Wednesday—after a police pursuit for a motor vehicle offense—officials said.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • Osage Beach resident Allison McGonigal was sentenced to two years of unsupervised probation after she stole over $26,000 from a client while working at a Jefferson City accounting firm on March 10.  KRCG-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Missouri legislators have introduced over a dozen bills aimed at tightening immigration laws but have seen little progress during the session. Some proposals—sponsored by various lawmakers—seek to impose fines, expand law enforcement roles, and restrict sanctuary policies.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • Postal workers in Jefferson City and Columbia held a protest on Thursday at the State Capitol to oppose plans to privatize the Postal Service, with union members saying the move threatened around 640,000 jobs and could reduce rural mail services. Federal officials recently signed an agreement with DOGE to address issues like retirement assets and worker’s compensation—raising concerns that the postal service may lose its independent status.  KRCG-TV
  • Jefferson City is finishing a $1.4 million trail near West Edgewood Drive that will be complete by summer.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • Gov. Mike Kehoe signed Executive Order 25-20 on March 20 to let the Missouri Department of Natural Resources temporarily suspend environmental rules for faster debris removal and recovery after severe weather—this order will help local communities—and it stays in effect until April 14.  KRCG-TV
