  • Billy Hurt’s lifesaving lessons impact Mid-Missouri firefighters as his extrication training & donation of rescue tools helped free a truck accident victim in 2013. He died on March 14 in a racing accident at Kennedale Speedway Park, and his methods continue to guide rescue efforts.  ABC 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cole County dedicated its Safe Haven Baby Box for anonymous infant surrenders on Thursday at EMS headquarters downtown — the box was installed after community funds raised nearly $28K helped cover a $4,900 installation gap. Gov. Mike Kehoe and county leaders attended the ceremony.  ABC 17

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Safe Haven Baby Box is installed outside Cole County EMS Headquarters, facing McCarty Street across from Jefferson City Hall, to give parents in crisis a safe, anonymous way to surrender their unharmed newborn today. Officials say this 424th box nationwide and 13th in Missouri meets a community demand for a secure resource.  KRCG-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Missouri’s basketball team begins its March Madness campaign today at 9:10 p.m. in St. Louis against the Miami Hurricanes — the Tigers are seeded #10 with a 20-12 record and the Hurricanes are #7 with a 25-8 record. KRCG 12 Live at Sunrise is polling mid-Missourians on who will win.  KRCG-TV
