- ➤ The Boys and Girls Club of Jefferson City asked mid-Missouri residents for help launching its new club in Holts Summit that started yesterday—this 43-day campaign seeks to raise $240,000—to expand tutoring, mentoring, and a safe space for local children. KRCG-TV
- ➤ About 370 Ameren Missouri customers in east Jefferson City lost power on Wednesday afternoon when trees damaged power lines during high winds—crews planned to restore service around 6 p.m. ABC 17
- ➤ Jefferson City's Center of Hope has used the Salvation Army's Pathway of Hope program for two to three years—helping 50% of individuals and 58% of families succeed at leaving homelessness. This week, Sinclair is teaming up with the Salvation Army to launch Sinclair Cares: from Homeless to Hope—an initiative that gives residents tools for long-term independence. KRCG-TV
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A building fire occurred on March 19th in the 4000 block of Wardsville Road as firefighters from Osage, Jefferson City and Cole County arrived at 2:04 p.m., stayed until 5:30 p.m. and worked to control nearby natural cover fires caused by strong winds and red flag conditions — no injuries were reported and the American Red Cross was asked to help affected residents. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Moniteau County R-1 school district is proposing an $8M no-tax increase bond to upgrade school buildings and add a new indoor athletic facility. District officials say the bond will fund renovations including safety improvements and more gym space to help students and community groups. KRCG-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Workers began demolishing the Missouri State Penitentiary a couple weeks ago to clear the site for the River Market Project in Jefferson City — the project will include a market facility, a Chestnut Street extension, and a trail connector linking local parks.
