COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Izula Maximillen works with Lincoln University Cooperative Extension’s Innovative Small Farmers Outreach Program and helps underserved farmers in Jackson County access training and support. She also served as the liaison on an $8.5 million federal grant that offers up to $50,000 for down payment aid — boosting land access for small producers.  Lincoln University of Missouri
  • The Central Missouri Foster Care and Adoption Association will launch its Traveling Trunk program on Thursday to provide clothing, hygiene items and other essentials to foster, adoptive and kinship families in 24 counties. Executive Director Jill Quaid said the new mobile trailer will help reach families in rural and underserved areas—expanding services from its three existing locations in Jefferson City, Rolla and Osage Beach.  ABC 17

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Southern Boone County firefighters fought wildfires in the Hart Creek Nature Area on Friday, March 14, 2025 and evacuated families from Mackie Lane, Jefferson Creek Road, and Cedar Tree Lane. No injuries or property loss were reported and officials asked evacuees to stay away while rain helped control the blaze.  KRCG-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • A 42-year-old convicted felon was arrested Thursday night on St. Mary's Blvd for allegedly pointing a handgun from his car (residents reported hearing a single gunshot) and he remains in custody at Cole County Jail awaiting formal charges (he faces charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Armed Criminal Action).  KRCG-TV

  • Meteorology experts in Columbia are worried that planned cuts to NOAA—slashing over 1,000 jobs—will weaken weather forecasts and delay warnings, leaving residents less prepared for storms like the 2019 Jefferson City tornado.  KRCG-TV
  • Missouri lawmakers in the House General Laws committee defeated a hemp regulation proposal—sponsored by Rep. Dave Hinman—after a hemp distributor emailed members to kill it on Thursday morning. The 5–7 vote leaves the debate open as legislators now consider bills that would ban intoxicating hemp products outside of dispensaries.  Jefferson City News Tribune
