GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Demolition of the Madison Street Parking Garage in downtown Jefferson City began on Wednesday+ crews closed off the area over the weekend, and the work is expected to finish by May 5. Once dismantled, plans call for a new conference center and hotel to improve local public parking.  ABC 17
  • The Missouri House recognized longtime Cole County 4-H volunteer Diane Temmen on Wednesday morning — Rep. Rudy Veit presented her with a framed proclamation on the House floor, honoring her years of service.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • The City of Jefferson began demolishing the Madison Street Parking Garage on Wednesday and expects it to finish in May to clear space for a 190,000 sqft conference center and 170,000 sqft parking garage downtown — construction is set to start in April and finish by January 2028.  KRCG-TV

  • The Missouri Gaming Commission is considering rules to ban college athlete prop bets in response to an NCAA request following a recent betting scandal. Industry groups warn the changes could push bettors offshore (a key concern) as the proposal remains under review.  KRCG-TV
